🚫 CANCELED: NE Johnson County / Bishop Miege Fireworks Show
The long-running Northeast Johnson County fireworks display at Bishop Miege High School in Roeland Park is permanently canceled starting 2026. Bishop Miege is installing synthetic turf on the baseball field that served as the launch site, making it ineligible. 🚫 CANCELED, Lee's Summit Legacy Blast (Large-Scale Show)
Due to FIFA World Cup 2026 being hosted at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Lee's Summit passed an ordinance limiting large fireworks shows from June 1 through July 31, 2026. The traditional large-scale Legacy Blast at Legacy Park is not happening this year. Only small subdivision fireworks at Raintree Lake and Lakewood were approved. ✨ NEW & UPGRADED: Blue Springs Goes BIG for America's 250th!
Red, White & Blue Springs 2026 is the biggest yet. New for this year: a 300-piece drone show will light up the sky before the traditional fireworks display, all in honor of America's 250th birthday. The event also moves to a full week of activities June 28–July 3. Gates open at 3pm (earlier than past years!) at Wilbur Young Park. Drone show + fireworks at 9:15pm.. Tips for the Best Experience
Arrive Early for Parking
Most shows fill parking lots 60 to 90 minutes before fireworks. For a 9:30pm show, aim to arrive by 7pm. Leawood closes City Park to parking entirely, use the free shuttle.
Use Shuttles and Streetcars
For the Stars & Stripes Picnic, take the KC Streetcar to Union Station. For Leawood, use the free shuttle from Leawood City Hall. For Parkville, the free shuttle runs from South Platte YMCA. Saves hours of traffic stress.
Bring the Right Gear
Folding chairs, blankets, a cooler, bug spray, and sunscreen for early arrivals. A small wagon is great for families hauling gear across parking lots and grass.
Plan for Little Ones
Bring glow sticks, snacks, and ear protection for young children. The wait before dark can be long, having activities and snacks makes a huge difference for small kids.
Pet Safety First
More pets go missing over the 4th of July than any other holiday. Most shows are not ideal for dogs, keep pets safely home. Note that Overland Park's Star Spangled Spectacular does welcome leashed dogs.
Liberty Fest Parking Pass
Liberty Fest requires a paid parking pass purchased in advance. Walk-up parking is not available. Buy your pass at the Liberty Chamber of Commerce office or online before June 26.
Charge Your Phone
Bring a portable battery pack. Cell towers get overloaded near large shows, slowing data. You will want full charge for photos, navigation, and group coordination.
Have an Exit Plan
Traffic after major fireworks shows can be intense. Identify alternate exit routes before arriving. Waiting 20 to 30 minutes after the finale often clears the worst of the traffic.
